I am in love with this idea: The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratt is an illustrated novel with very little text. All of the images are vintage 1920s images, photographs and postcards and clothing catalog images, all arranged scrapbook-style to tell a story of a girl pursuing her dream in the 1920s.
I am a big fan of anything 1920s -- when my husband and I got married, it was in a 1920s-themed wedding, and I wore a real wedding gown from 1929. I keep a blog dedicated to 1920s fashions and planning Roaring Twenties-themed weddings. I love reading books about the era, including F. Scott Fitzgerald's novels and nonfiction books about the decade, and I'm now writing a novel set in the time period. I've also started a small 1920s postcard collection of my own, choosing cards that inspire me or reflect the characters in my novel.
As a result, I was thrilled when I realized I wasn't the first person to do so -- Caroline Preston has actually told an entire story with vintage postcards and other images! I started flipping through the book the other day at the bookstore, and it's now on my to-be-read list. (A huge concession, by the way, since it's not available as an ebook.) Obviously it will be a fast read, since the entire novel is in illustrations, but the authentic vintage images are delightful to read. I imagine it's the type of book that I will look at from time to time, and always be glad I added it to my collection.
